Friday, February 24, 7:30pm, Canadian Memorial Church and Centre for Peace (15th and Burrard)
Marking the first anniversary of the Ukraine invasion on Friday, February 24, and reflecting on the threats of nuclear annihilation that Russia is using to isolate the Ukranian people, we are very proud to present let us not be the reason… A Concert for Peace. Featuring the works we commissioned from Robyn Jacob, Rita Ueda and Jordan Nobles for our August 2020 concert marking the 75th anniversary of the Hiroshima atrocity, this event will be the first time these works can be heard by a live audience after Covid forced their premieres to become a filmed presentation.
Conducted by Leslie Dala, with a 42 piece string orchestra led by concertmaster Rebecca Whitling, the program features Arvo Pärt’s luminous Cantus in Memoriam of Benjamin Britten, performed as a prayer for peace along with Rita Ueda’s let us not be the reason someone out there is praying for peace, Robyn Jacob’s A World in Each, and Jordan Nobles’ Black Rain.
