Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire is one of the most iconic works of the 20th century. Bringing this macabre masterpiece to life are Dory Hayley as Pierrot, Corey Hamm (piano), Rebecca Whitling (violin), Mark Takeshi McGregor (flute), Michelle Goddard (clarinet) and Sungyong Lim (cello). We’re thrilled that the ensemble will be conducted by past Little Chamber Music Artistic Director Les Dala!

A tribute to Joe Raposo
August 11, 3:30 and 7:00 pm in the Celebration Hall
Joe Raposo may not be a household name, but anyone who grew up in Canada in the 60s, 70s or 80s will have been affected by his music. Joe wrote over 300 songs for Sesame Street and the Muppets, including the classics Being Green and C is for Cookie. To mark 30 years since his passing, we are proud to present a concert of his music hosted by Richard Newman and featuring an all-star band with Tariq Hussain, Patsy Klein, Barry Mirochnick, Ida Nilsen, Ellen Marple, Mark McGregor, Mark Haney and Peggy Lee.
Join us for a musical tribute to an under-appreciated talent! Joe was one of the original members of the Children’s Television Workshop, a group of people who believed the new medium of television could be a tool to teach children basic facts and skills. Along with celebrating his art and artistry, we are paying tribute to the goals and ideals that originally created and sustained Sesame Street and Joe’s part in that.
This concert will be performed twice, once in the afternoon for families with young children and again in the evening. The ensemble will be an artistic mix of styles and backgrounds, with each artist bringing their own history and style to Joe’s songs through collaborative arrangements and new approaches to old classics.
Treesong
August 18, 7:30pm outdoors near the Celebration Hall
Treesong is an unusual new Vancouver-based musical group formed by Brad Muirhead that features his original compositions for visual artist David Gowman’s hand made instruments he calls “fuhorns”. Made mostly of empress wood (a fast growing hardwood), the fuhorns are weird and wonderful organically formed and individually unique pieces of musical sculpture.
The cemetery will be filled with sound as seven fuhornists (all professional brass players) and two percussionists bring this unique musical experience to one of the city’s finest public spaces.
Featuring instrument maker David Gowman; Brad Muirhead, Brian Harding, Ralph Eppel, Jim Hopson, Adrian Smith, David Gowman, Ellen Marple: fuhorns; Nick Apivor and Gary Wildeman: Percussion
