Join Little Chamber Music at 11am on Tuesday November 11th for our annual musical ceremony “Remembered Aloud” in Mountain View Cemetery’s Abray South Field of Honour, just north of 37th avenue.
At 11am, a bell will toll 11 times, followed by 2 minutes of silence.
At 11:03am, 11 local brass players and local singers including the Vancouver Bach Choir will sing/play a simple Phrase of Remembrance together. All the performers will then begin to move away from each other, and each person in their own time will read names out loud from individual grave markers and then sing or play the Phrase of Remembrance, until they have left the Field of Honour.
Over 12,000 veterans rest in Mountain View, each with their own personal histories, families, hopes and dreams. The intent is to speak several hundred of these names out loud, giving each veteran a small moment of individual reflection.
We invite all of you to join us in silent meditation as the music and performers move across the Field of Honour, and to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many. Your presence to witness the ceremony and hear the names and repetition of the Phrase of Remembrance is what gives this unique performance life and power, year after year.
Remembered Aloud was originally conceived and composed by Mark Haney.
This event will take place in the cemetery just north of 37th avenue. Volunteers will be onsite to assist anyone having difficultly finding the location.
