On November 11, join us for a very special event of musical remembrance: Remembering Together, Apart.
11 brass players and 3 choirs: musica intima, The Vancouver Bach Choir and the Vancouver Youth Choir, will all gather, and sing/play a simple Phrase of Remembrance together. All the performers will then begin to move away from each other, and each person in their own time will read a name out loud from a grave marker, and then sing or play the Phrase of Remembrance, repeating this 11 times. Both together as a group, and as separate, independent voices, we are unified in the belief that war must not happen again as the human cost is far too high.
Over 12,000 veterans rest in Mountain View, and the hope is this event will speak several thousand names out loud, and each of those people will be given a small moment of individual reflection.
We will be performing this musical ceremony three times: at 11am, 12pm and 1pm. The 11am performance will take place in Abray South Field of Honour, 12pm in Abray North Field of Honour, and 1pm in the Horne Field of Honour. The map below shows where the starting points will be for each performance: #1 is 11am in Abray South, #2 is 12pm in Abray North, and #3 is 1pm in Horne.
We invite all of you to join us in silent meditation as the music and performers move across the vast Fields of Honour, and to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many. Your presence to witness the ceremony and hear the names and repetition of the Phrase of Remembrance is what will give this unique performance life and power.
